We store a little data on your device — what the site needs to work, and, only if you allow it, a count of which stories are read. The detail is in Privacy Policy, and you can change your answer at any time from the cookie settings link in the footer.

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Visit ME processes personal data when you visit visitmiddleeast.net. We process personal data in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (the General Data Protection Regulation, “GDPR”) and the national data protection law that applies to us.

Who is responsible for your data

The controller for the processing described below is Visit ME, Street Street.

For any question about this policy or about your personal data, write to john@john.uk.

What personal data we collect

We collect only the data needed to run this website and to answer you:

  • Technical data your browser sends when a page is requested: IP address, user agent, referring page, date and time.
  • Data you send us voluntarily: the content of your message, your name and your email address when you contact us.

Why we process it, and on what legal basis

Each purpose has its own legal basis under Article 6(1) GDPR:

  • Delivering the site and keeping it secure — our legitimate interest in a working, protected service (Art. 6(1)(f)).
  • Answering your messages — our legitimate interest in replying to enquiries, or the performance of a contract when your request concerns one (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f)).
  • Meeting accounting, press and other statutory duties — compliance with a legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)).

Cookies and local storage

This site sets no cookie for audience measurement, personalisation or advertising. Your browser may keep a small amount of data on your own device to remember a preference you set; that data stays on your device and is not read by us or by anyone else, and Article 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC does not require consent for it.

If that ever changes, this page will say so first, and anything that is not strictly necessary will be set only after you have agreed to it, with your choice changeable or withdrawable at any time.

Who has access to your data

Your data is accessible to the staff of John McEnroe who need it, and to the service providers acting on our instructions as processors under Article 28 GDPR: hosting and content delivery (the publisher’s hosting provider), email delivery, and audience measurement where enabled.

We do not sell personal data. Data is disclosed to a public authority only where the law requires it.

Transfers outside the European Economic Area

Our processing takes place in the European Economic Area wherever possible. Where a provider processes data outside the EEA, the transfer is covered by an adequacy decision of the European Commission or by the Standard Contractual Clauses, together with the additional safeguards required by Chapter V GDPR.

How long we keep your data

Server logs are kept for up to twelve months. Messages you send us are kept for up to three years after our last exchange. Data we must retain by law is kept for the period that law prescribes, and is then deleted.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • access your personal data and obtain a copy of it (Art. 15);
  • have inaccurate data corrected (Art. 16);
  • have your data erased (Art. 17);
  • restrict the processing (Art. 18);
  • receive your data in a portable format (Art. 20);
  • object to processing based on our legitimate interest (Art. 21);
  • withdraw a consent you have given, without affecting processing carried out before the withdrawal (Art. 7(3)).

How to exercise your rights, and how to complain

Send your request to john@john.uk. We answer within one month, and tell you if we need to extend that period. We may ask for proof of identity when a request is unclear about who is making it.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority of the country where you live, work, or where you believe the breach occurred.

Automated decision-making

We do not take decisions producing legal effects concerning you, or similarly significantly affecting you, based solely on automated processing.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy whenever our processing changes. The version published on this page is the one in force, and its date is shown at the top.
